Originally from New York, my wife and 2 boys and I moved to Jupiter, Florida 12 years ago. We really enjoy the climate and the more relaxed lifestyle here. Jupiter is about 20 miles north of West Palm Beach which is a small city by most standards.

When we lived in New York a great vacation was to hang out at the beach for a week. Now we can do that any time. So we are beginning to look for places that offer a new environment. We particularly like wildlife (snakes are a big favorite) so this summer we visited Costa Rica. This country offers a terrific variety of geography and climates within a small area. Rain forest, jungle, beach, moutains and volcanoes are all within driving distance of eachother.

view from our patio in the Northern Hills of Costa Rica
We landed in San Jose and traveled 6 hours by car North to the Alejuela Province to see volacanoes, bath in hotspings and hike through rain forest. From the patio of our room we could see large alligators sunning themselves on the bank of a twisting river below. We spent a hard day hiking the rainforest but relaxed under the stars that nigh soaking in a volcanic hotsprings near Arenal. After a few days we were on to the Monteverde "cloud forest" where it rained most of the time but the wildlife was abundant.

After that we flew 30 minutes over the mountains in a 12 seat prop plane to the beach resort of Manuel Antonio to dry off and hang out. Reminded me of  Cuzumel before it became so popular. Mountains and sea shore mingled together with a pleasant little artistic village to explore.

After that back to San Jose for a day of shopping then home.
